Project Background

North Sea countries are now in the process of preparing Maritime Spatial Plans (MSPs). Current legislation leaves space for different interpretations, which results in countries not always following comparable methods and approaches.

Developments in the North Sea are ramping up fast and increasingly have cross-border impacts or are planned across borders. The growing need for offshore wind park construction will be one of the main drivers for such developments.

Strategic Environmental Assesment

The Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) can be used as a decision-making tool during the setup of MSPs, the involvement of stakeholders and implementation of cross-border projects in specific areas. Within this project Strategic Environmental Assessment North Sea Energy (SEANSE) such a tool will be tested on a number of cases within the North Sea.
